Last weekend, I went to Universal Studios Japann(USJ) with my friends. It was raining but we still went and tried to enjoy the rides. But that’s not the point in this blog :) When we entered USJ, i saw Cookie Monster Mascot and couldn’t help but tried to have a picture with “him” or “it” :)   For those who grew up with sesame street (shouting and raising hand: me! me! me!) , you’d always remember Big Bird, Ernie and Bert, Elmo, Dracula or the Kermit Frog. But hey, don’t forget Cookie Monster! He may not be the most likable character of Sesame Street but he sure made his role known (what was he doing again?). Eating cookies… that’s all. Eating cookies counted by children… the letter of the day “C” as in cookiieeess!!!! or C as in Cookie Monster :)

The CS/Eng’g Departments of ADZU had the party yesterday. For several years, I celebrated the Christmas party with the group. This year, I am just too far away to physically join them :( だいじょうぶ (It’s okey :P ) YM made it possible to as least talk to some of them and Multiply allowed me to view the pictures they had! Looked fun!

Some few years back, there was a Christmas party organized by the then Computer Center. And they asked the department to prepare a number (like any number!). Hmmm… I can’t remember how the idea of dancing came out, but that was the plan. A dance number! *blushing*

And so it went. Two days before the party was held (we held it La Vista Del Mar), we spent some time practicing. Should I mention the names? hahaha there were four of us (oh yeah, I was one of them!*hides*). It felt good but somewhat embarassing because  it had been a long time then since I was involved into some dance intermission number :P

Remembering those days make us laugh (yeah, for so many reasons). And everytime we hear that song, the song we used for that number, it will always bring back that fun (and funny) memory of that Christmas party some years back. You might be wondering what the song was ;-) yeah… here it is:

…take note of the steps…it was the same!!!

P.S.

Sorry guys ( you know who you are!) but it was good to remember the good times in the past. hahaha I miss you all…

I grew up with oldie songs, even songs that i can consider “not from my time”. I can’t even trace back how I got to know the songs. All I know now is I have heard them before and grew to like them. What are my type of songs? Most of the songs I like have something to do with life and heart. Something that talks about feelings. Lately, something that gives name to my feelings. But there are songs a i like because of the rhythm. When you listen to them, you’d feel like dancing, or perhaps forget about the worries you have.

Aside from songs, I also have a few of favorite singers/band. I love The Carpenters. Karen Carpenter’s voice is different. I felt like drawn to her songs and feel the message. I know many of Carpeners’ songs, but ask me how I learned them? Ennnkkk… I don’t know. Maybe I heard them from the radio, or maybe I heard them from my sisters. But I love Carpenters’ songs. Favorite Carpenter Song: You, Goodbye to Love, Rainy days on Mondays.

ABBA: With ABBA’s popularity before, it was impossible not to know their songs. Favorite ABBA songs? Well, I just learned about these songs recently but they became my most listened to ABBA songs: One of Us, Name of the Game, Angel’s Eyes.

Anne Murray. We had a cassette tape of Anne Murray and I really like her voice. So “whole” and cool. Most listened to Anne Murray Song: Broken Hearted Me. And my favorite line in that song is this “No I don’t think time is gonna heal this broken heart, no I don’t see how it can, while we are still apart.” Quite sad, isn’t it? :)

Bread. The band is cool. The guitar and the vocalist sound cool. You know If and Diary right? :) But the songs I like most from this group is Look What You’ve Done, Everything I own, Dismal Day. I also like David Gate’s Find Me. yes, Find me ;-) the song says “find me, look hard, don’ stop, I’ll be waiting till then, don’t sleep, don’t eat, till I’m back…” and in the beginning of the song it says

The skies are not as blue, when you’re not with me
The stars, they never seem to shine as bright
And the hours crack like days across the ages
And a year or two pass by with every night.”

:D

I also like some unfamiliar songs to many. How many of you know Sandra by Barry Manilow? Or Lessons to be Learned by Barbra Streisand? Or perhaps Don McClean’s Crossroad? The songs talk about life, about feelings, about a person. And i like these kinds of songs. Sandra is quite a sad song (refer to the video)

Sandra by Barry Manilow

I also remember writing down the lyrics of these two songs by playing-stopping the cassette. There was no internet during that time and I really liked the songs and wanted to know the lyrics that badly. So i had to play the cassette, stop and write the lyrics and play again! And thanks to the technology, I don’t have to do that now. Just search google with the lyrics and youtube with the video.

I hope you like the songs, too. Doors by Michael Johnson and What’s forever for by Michael Martin Murphy.

Michael Johnson: Doors

What’s Forever For

And of course, lastly but not the least, my favorite songs in playing the guitar (and of course I love the lyrics!): I never dreamed someone like you could love someone like me by Kathy Irvin and Woman in Love my Three degrees.

I Never Dreamed someone like you could love someone like me

Woman in Love my Three degrees

Sure, by Debbie Gibson. This song reminds me of a good friend back in College. She would sing the first line of this song (or was it the first word only? hehhe) But she would say it this way: “Shore, by DIBI GIBSON”…okey say it faster! Maybe if Dorina will read this blog, she’ll be surprised that this is one of the things that remind me of her, other than the “I saw the Sign” theme we have hahaha Oh well, that’s another story :)

See? The name Dorina Minette reminds me of so many good things (and funny things!) back in college. Let me see, hmmm the name reminds me of this fairly fairy-like lady with long black hair (naks! pang commercial model ang dating!) A Lea Salonga fan ( feeling Lea din minsan :P hahah peace!).

Wait! Why am I writing this blog about her? Maybe that is the question you have right now, right? or Right?

Dorina sent me a message in friendster the other day. And true, nakakamiss ang dating samahan. So I sent her a Friendster Comment about a line in Lion King, which I learned to be familiar of because of her. And I realized that there are still many things that remind me of her and for sure, SURE by DIBI GIBSON is one :D .

But what else?

Notebook: Scratch paper. lectures. She wrote all her lectures in scratch papers and re-write it when she gets home (her way of reviewing). So if you missed many things in class and you need notes, you know whom to run to!

Lion King. I don’t know but maybe she just loved this movie, or it’s just that she loved memorization that even lines from movies she memorized! “Hakuna matata!” The Hyena’s Mufasa line “Mufasa”, “ooohh I just hear that name and I shudder, say it again!” And she would say it with FEELINGS! And of course the Timone line “You know her, she knows you, and she wants to eat him, and everybody is okey with that?! ” I knew these lines because of her! I knew these lines even before I watched The Lion King.

She loves to sing. Okey, and that’s all! hahaha joke! Peace Dorina. But the songs that remind me of her are these two songs* The Sign by Ace of Base and Sure, by Debbie Gibson. Of course there were other songs, but these two are signature Dorina-reminder for me hehehe

Gray Calculator. Was that a scientific calculator? And she’s still using it until now! I visited her in the bank she’s working for, and was surprised to see that calculator! Wow! What’s the brand of that calculator again? It lasts lonnnggg!

Only few people know the Dorina I know. Inspite her strong personality, Dorina is still a low profile person. I kinda miss listening to her simple stories and her candid laughs.

And by the way, Dorina, remember this name? ERRIELLE hehehe you were the one who thought of this name.  The name ERRIELLE was born Summer of 1994(sometime April), when Dorina and Erlyn were waiting for 5pm during their Practicum Days hahah let’s not talk about how and why you coined it as such, okey? It was even a complete name before. Let me see “Errielle Forgets Stag”? :P Because of Dorina, I have a pseudo-name that will always be uniquely mine (although somebody already used the name in real life with my permission :D )

Well, Dorina Minette, this is for you: Sure, by Debbie Gibson :P

Airplane! Airplane!!!

Reminds you of something? If you were a growing up kid(like me!) or perhaps a grown up in the early 80’s, you’d probably know which TV series “Airplane! Airplane!” came from. And do you still remember who said this?

Do you remember an airplane hovering over, about to land and a midget guy shouting “Airplane Airplane!” then ringing a bell? Do you remember the midget guy? Yes! TATTOO!

Tattoo, the midget guy shouting that line from a bell tower (or was it?) as he saw the airplane, or a seaplane, about to land on the waters.  This was from a TV series from the late 70’s till the early 80’s. Fantasy Island was one show we would frequently watch when I was  a kid. And this midget guy “Tattoo” was the only thing I can remember in this weekly TV series :) I can’t even remember what the story was all about! All i knew of Fantasy Island was this small guy, wearing white suit, shouting that line.  Tattoo was played by Hervé Villechaize. Oh well, those were the days. Now, I can only watch it from youtube.com. And I had to search for “shows in the 80’s” just to remember the title of the TV series! I’m sorry but I am poor at remembering titles and names. I can just imagine the show running in my mind, as it was about to begin, just like the video I am posting here. Enjoy!

Now, do you remember this show??? =)

Hannah, me, Karleen, Estelle

From left: Hannah, Erlyn, Karleen, Estelle Fe

I found this picture in Hannah’s friendster public photos! This was taken after the 5-day Call Center Training in STI Zamboanga, sometime May 2006. Hannah and Estelle with Kori (not in the picture) were my buddies during the training. The four of us got along so easily. We had our first lunch together in a store in front of STI and had karaoke while having lunch (hahaha!). I missed that! Since that crazy karaoke lunch, we were together for the rest of the training days. The training was concluded in a 2-day visit in Davao City sponsored by GCOM (a call center company). The four of us were assigned in one room and we spent our time chatting, playing, telling stories! It was really fun! After the training, we still see each other once in a while until everyone became busy with their own lives. Oh, Kori Gay called me Mamu, supposed to be an endearment of Mother. Or was it Hannah who called me Mamu first? Whoever started it, I was their “mother” during that time. Obviously, I was older and like kids, these 3 girls wanted to hear stories. And there was “mamu” telling stories about anything.

In 1998, when I was staying in a boarding house in Iligan, the girls called one of our friends “Nanay”. Ate Esther was the nanay of the house. Everyone called her  Nanay, even the friends from MSU-IIT Computer Center started calling her Nanay Eves. It’s funny because, during that time somebody else was Nanay. And now, here Nico and Eng calls me ‘Okaasan’, or ‘nay’ for Eng.

Time has really changed. And it’s funny because my role way back in 1998 in Iligan was a big sister to the college girls in the dorm and Ate Esther was our Nanay. But here, for Eng, I’m not only her big sister but I am also her Nanay. She got used to it!!! ‘pero anak, ang bata ko pa para maging nanay mo ha!” hahaha

As a morning routine, I have breakfast in front of my laptop entertained by youtube videos or read inquirer.net for some headlines and news from Philippines (I just read the headlines, i don’t read details :p). I read that it’s Mickey Mouse’s 80th Birthday! Happy birthday mickey! So I checked youtube with Mickey’s first cartoon titled “Steamline Willie”. Okey, it’s not Mickey who tickles my heart. After clicking some related videos, i came across Beatles videos. Now don’t ask me why suddenly from Mickey to Beatles! Anyway, I captured some videos of Beatles like “Till There Was You”, “Here, There, and Everywhere” and “I Will”. Beatles’ songs are timeless and “I Will” will always be one of my favorites. And because of that link, i found one of my most favorite I Will rendition — Alison Krauss’ I WILL. I used to have a cassette tape of Alison Krauss but I gave it to a friend as a gift. Yes, Alison Krauss’ I Will is different. Everytime I listen to this song, I just can’t help but wished I am in love hahaha Actually, the reason why I had that cassette tape was because of Baby Now that I’ve Found you :p And i had that because of my friend, Rosey. I kinda tease her that it’s her song! Oh no, a song for her! hahaha But I’ll keep the details a secret sshhh…Waaahh, memories! I miss Rosey. Everytime we hear this song before, Rosey and I would just look at each other and laugh!

So, for this blog entry, I offer you two videos: I Will and Baby now that I’ve found you by Alison Krauss. The songs that tickle my heart…

I WILL

BABY NOW THAT I’VE FOUND YOU

Okey, this is my third attempt to add a blog today. First I wanted to talk about commercials, then another. But for both enrties, I just stopped because along the way, i didn’t know what to say. Sort of there is “kulang” in what I want to say. While having dinner in front of my laptop, I was browsing some Sarah Geronimo videos. And you know in youtube, videos have so many links! Then I found a link for a Sharon Cuneta and daughter KC videos, where KC was promoting her Album, and part of the video was a young KC singing “Mr DJ” in one of her mom’s show. And… jaaa-raannn! It brought back memories of Sharon Cuneta, with short her, around 12 years old, singing Mr DJ on TV. I tried to look for that video in youtube but it’s not available huhuhu.

But yes, am a Sharon fan (ssshhh, we had a multiplex of Sharon Cuneta songs hihihihi). My sister Liza and I used to sing Sharon’s songs (in our house!): Bituing walang ningning, Pangarap na Bituin, Langis at Tubig, Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok, etc, etc… I have watched Sharon movies (ehemmmm): Bituing Walang Ningning, Nakagapos na Puso, Kahit Wala Ka Na, Pasan ko ang Daigdig… we used to watch the Sharon Cuneta show during weekends. And I even remembered now, I sang Mr. Dj with my friend/classmate Roselyn Clemente during a program in high school! (Ro, pasensya na hahahah).

Since I don’t have a video of that 12-year-old Sharon singing Mr DJ, maybe this will be okey for this post.

Yeah, gusto kong magrequest: another Sharon song!

Okey ayan, one of my favorite Sharon Songs: Pangarap na Bituin.

One summer, I found myself strumming the guitar with the songhits in front of me. I didn’t know how to play the guitar then, but I was dying to know how! Everyone in the family played the guitar. My father entertained us with this old songs and his guitar. I remembered my Manang Merza playing the guitar when she was home. And I wanted to be like her. So, i got the guitar, read the guitar chords and tried to figure out how it worked. Hmmm..maybe those easy chords will be a good start, I thought. Maybe a C, G, Em, A, Am,… chords that required fewer fingers. And I looked for a song I knew, and found this song by Bee Gees: First of May.

Since then, this song became memorable. This is the first song I learned with the guitar.

(note: I didn't know F#m or C# then, so whenever I get to those chords, I just sing hehehe)
